KHS Reading Project
Sun 18 Feb 2024The key aim of The Explorer as a whole school reading project is to encourage students to engage with reading and enjoy the experience.
- Regular reading is habit forming, engaging students with regular reading and encouraging them to read independently.
- Having tutors as reading champions to model how a story should be read will demonstrate how reading can be enjoyable.
- Providing an opportunity to discuss what is being read demonstrates that reading can be a collaborative experience.
- The text has been chosen to widen and challenge student’s understanding in terms of cultural knowledge, vocabulary, genre and concepts.
Thank you for your support and below are ways to support reading at home (TRUST)
T: Take turns to read and make predictions
R: Recap to check ideas and understanding
U: Use encouragement and praise
S: Share prior knowledge
T: Tune-in and listen
