Guidance for Parents:
Welcome to Knowl Hill School! We are delighted that you are considering our school for your child's education. Our commitment is to provide a supportive and inclusive learning environment for all children, acknowledging the diverse needs they may have. Below is an outline of our pre-admission protocol and important steps in the admission process:
Admissions Criteria:
· Diverse Funding Options: We accept children funded by Local Education Authorities, as well as those supported privately or by our own Bursary system.
· Educational Psychologist Report/EHCP: All children must have an up-to-date report from an Educational Psychologist and/or an EHCP indicating specific learning difficulties such as Dyslexia or Dyspraxia.
· Right to Refuse Admission: The school retains the right to refuse admission to any child judged to be unable to fully benefit from our education or who may disrupt the teaching environment and ethos.
Pre-Admission Protocol:
1. Initial Visit without the Child:
· Parents are encouraged to make the first visit without the child
· Discussion of the child's challenges and a review of various reports.
2. Explanation of the Curriculum:
· Explanation of our curriculum during the first meeting
· If both parties agree, a second visit, including the child, will be arranged.
3. Two- Day Visit:
· During term-time, your child will be shown around by another pupil. This usually happens during the two-day visit
· Your child will spend two days in the anticipated class, participating in daily activities
· Evaluation by the class teacher and therapists, with optional screening assessments, if needed.
4. EHCP Meeting:
· The SENCo will discuss the provisions listed in the EHCP and address any questions.
5. Decision and Communication:
· After consultation with staff (including therapists), a place may be offered to the child
· Full communication with parents, including reasons behind the decision.
6. Acceptance and Registration:
· Upon accepting the offered place, parents will receive a Registration form
· The Registration form, along with a £100.00 Registration fee, constitutes a contractual agreement.
Assessment Period:
· Assessment Place: We may offer an assessment place for approximately half a term.
· Placement Meeting: A meeting will be scheduled at the end of the assessment period.
· Extension if Needed: If necessary, the assessment period may be extended to provide the child with more time to settle.
We value open communication and collaboration between parents, teachers, and staff to ensure the best possible educational experience for your child. If you have any questions or concerns at any stage of the process, please feel free to reach out to the school administration.
Thank you for considering Knowl Hill School as the educational home for your child. We look forward to the possibility of welcoming your family into our community.
Sincerely,
Dr Kas Govender
