The key aim of The Explorer as a whole school reading project is to encourage students to engage with reading and enjoy the experience. 

• Regular reading is habit forming, engaging students with regular reading and encouraging them to read independently.
• Having tutors as reading champions to model how a story should be read will demonstrate how reading can be enjoyable.
• Providing an opportunity to discuss what is being read demonstrates that reading can be a collaborative experience.
• The text has been chosen to widen and challenge student’s understanding in terms of cultural knowledge, vocabulary, genre and concepts.
