The Explorer comes to life at Knowl Hill School - World Book Day
World Book Day, Thursday 7th March 2024
The whole school is currently reading The Explorer by Katherine Rundell, an exciting story of four children stranded in the Amazon Rainforest. We therefore took the opportunity to invite ZooLab to visit us as part of our celebrations, so we could learn more about some of creatures that live in these biomes. Lucia, the presenter, was excellent and furnished us with lots of information about the rainforest and her friends:
an African Land Snail, named Sheldon
a Madagascan Hissing Cockroach, called Scooter
a Giant African Millipede, called Colin (after the famous cake!) an Asian Forest Scorpion, named Captain Hook
a Tree Frog, named Lily
a Corn Snake called Nagini (inspired by the Harry Potter books)
Lower School students and staff alike also embraced the theme of The Explorer and wore some impressive costumes. There was some excellent attention to detail that demonstrated how the children have been captivated by the book.
