The Friends of Knowl Hill School
In 2016 we re-launched the PTA as the ‘Friends of Knowl Hill’ or KHF for short.
We felt the name change reflects a more welcoming approach and, in doing this, we aim to attract a wider network of support from friends, families, past families of the school, grandparents, the local community and anyone who has an interest in getting their teeth into developing funds to benefit all students.
We are currently working on a plan with the school and students to define our priorities for 2017. More information will follow shortly.
If you have any ideas and suggestions for events or would like to talk about the KHF we are keen to hear from you. Please do not hesitate to contact Ania Timpson on 07776 300745 or the school office 01483 797032.
SAVE THE DATE! QUIZ NIGHT SATURDAY 18 NOVEMBER 2017
- e-mail sent 26/09/2017
Dear Parents and Friends
The KHF have organised a Quiz Night at Pirbright Village Hall on Saturday 18 November 2017 at 7:30pm. To reserve your place at this very popular event, please send your ticket request to school as soon as possible to reserve your table. Don’t worry if you do not have enough people to fill a table – there will be other tables you can join if you wish to come by yourself. (This is an adult only evening, so no pupils on this occasion.)
Full details about how to sign up for this event are attached. A hard copy of the booking form is being sent home with the children this week, but for those of you who do not have a child at Knowl Hill, please feel free to call in to the school office to collect a copy.
KHF TEXTILE COLLECTION - e-mail sent 22/09/2017
Friday 29 September is our first textile collection of the school year. Last year we managed to raise nearly £300 from old clothes and our aim is to do better this year.
Don't forget to have a clear-out over the weekend of any unwanted clothes, shoes, or bags. They can be brought to the school from Wednesday next week, ready for collection on Friday, so we can turn them in to cash for the school.
For more information on what happens to the clothes click on the link below:
Chair of the KHF
Please find attached the minutes from last week’s KHF AGM, which includes information about future fundraising.
We desperately need more volunteers, so please get in touch if you can help with any of the events.

PARENT REPRESENTATIVE NOMINATION - e-mail sent 18/09/2017
The role of Parent Representative is up for election. Please submit your interest to the KHF, via the School Office, if you would like to be considered for the role, with a short description of what you feel you could offer in this position and any relevant experience. In the event of more than one submission, all parents will be asked to vote for the nominee who they believe is most suited to the role.
DESCRIPTION OF THE ROLE OF PARENT REPRESENTATIVE
As many of our Parents live some distance from the school, we appreciate that any Parent Representative may have to travel quite a way to attend Board meetings. We would like to make this easier, and to make communications between the school and the Parent Rep more efficient. We therefore intend to structure the role as follows:
The Parent Rep will not be required to attend all Board meetings. They will meet with the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher on a regular basis (date and time to be decided between them, but preferably once or twice a term) to discuss any issues that parents have raised with the Parent Rep. The Parent Rep will submit a report on any issues and any outcome of any meeting with the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher that they feel the Board need to be informed about.
The Parent Rep will attend the AGM of the Board, usually in May, and report directly to the Board.
If the Parent Rep has any concerns that they think are not being addressed, after discussion with the Headteacher and Deputy Headteacher, they have the right to bring this issue directly to the Chair of Directors, in the first instance by email, and a meeting can be arranged between the Parent Rep and the Chair and any other Director if required.
The Board see the role of Parent Representative as a liaison between the parents, the Board and the School. The Parent Rep role enables parents to have a point of contact with someone who is not a member of staff, to discuss concerns that they do not necessarily wish to bring to the attention of the Headteacher or Deputy Headteacher themselves. It should be noted that any issues relating to individual children’s education should be referred to the Form Tutor, Deputy Headteacher or Headteacher, not to the Parent Representative.
The Parent Representative should work in the best interests of both parents and the School and should seek to facilitate communications between parents and staff at all times.
The Parent Representative should attend the Knowl Hill Friends school meetings in order that parents can have the opportunity to talk to him/her and the Parent Representative will, hopefully, be able to answer many of the questions parents usually raise.
